Cool nights, sunny days and leaves turning beautiful shades of yellow, green, orange and red mark this time of year. Sample the colours (and crunchy ground) of autumn in the parks in and around Melbourne. From the Royal Botanic Gardens to the Dandenong Ranges - you won’t want to miss the soothing displays before the leaves drop off for winter.
What’s even better is you can bring the colours of autumn to your home, with autumn blooms that feel fresh, warm and inviting all at once.
From their bold shapes to their deep colours and intricate petals, dahlias are a good enough reason alone to love autumn. They bring vibrancy to any bouquet and they love to surprise - blossoming in a range of changing colours from late summer all the way through autumn.
The most romantic flower out there, roses bring a splash of colour to homes and gardens across Australia in autumn. Shades of yellow, orange and red roses mark this season, so you can say I love you even when beach days are over for the year.
These flowers begin to show up during summer but achieve their full beauty in autumn. Their pink and white shades stand out against deep green leaves, for a flower that becomes a real talking point of any arrangement.
We love chrysanthemums for their bold take on autumn shades. Sure to brighten up any home with hues of purple, pink, yellow, orange and white, we love the whimsical feel of this flower here at bloom’d.

A feature of everything from Beauty & the Beast to American Beauty (and of course, The Bachelor), red roses symbolise timeless love, romance, beauty and passion. From a single red rose through to a beautiful bouquet, and even rose petals scattered around a room, nothing says “I love you” like the deep red hue.
Did you know that a red rose without thorns also stands for love at first sight? The perfect gesture for that new person in your life!
The colour white has always represented purity, and white roses are no different. They’re also connected to youthfulness, hope, loyalty and young love. That’s why you often see white roses chosen for weddings. As well as being beautiful, white roses have some historical significance. In Germany, a non-violent group that opposed Hitler was named die Weiße Rose (the white rose), and the symbol was meant for youth and pure intentions.
We love an elegant bouquet of white roses mixed with other colours.
Yellow Roses
The sunny shade of yellow roses is a widely-accepted symbol for friendship. Traditionally used as a way to bring joy and cheer for a friend that was feeling down, today we often see friends gifting yellow roses to one another on Valentine’s Day (or Galentine’s Day) to represent their everlasting friendship.
Interestingly, centuries ago, yellow roses were viewed as a sign of jealousy! It’s awesome to see how dramatically this meaning has changed over the years. Nowadays, we even see people in relationships gifting their other half a mixture of red and yellow roses, to say “I love you but you’re also my best friend”.
Pink Roses
A stunning feminine flower, pink roses are ones that burst with elegance and sweetness. Perfect for everything from Valentine’s Day to wedding days, pink roses are a little more gentle than the traditional red rose, and are seen as a token of appreciation for a person.
Select from a pastel pink to a hot pink hue for a bouquet your giftee will love!
Orange Roses
Does your loved one tend to stray away from the traditional? An orange rose is a vibrant, fiery flower that represents passion and excitement. Sure to instantly boost the mood of anyone that receives them, orange roses may not have the deep history that other shades do, but are a great way to tell someone you’re ready to take the relationship to the next level!

They’ve built up a resistance to harsh temperatures and droughts, and they keep their vibrancy for longer.
We’re obsessed with our summer blooms and the flowers that thrive this time of year. Here are some of the flowers that flourish below the Aussie sun, and tips to make them last even longer.
Christmas flowers make the perfect gift for a loved one or add a fresh, whimsical touch to the festive decorations around your home. Get into the holiday spirit with these beautiful blooms, in the bright, warm shades we associate with the holidays.
The classic Christmas bloom, the poinsettia embodies just about everything about Christmas! With its pointed star shape and bright red leaves, it’s no wonder we’re seeing the official Christmas flower everywhere at the moment - from vibrant bunches to homemade wreaths.
Poinsettias got their reputation as a festive bloom thanks to an old Mexican legend. As it goes, a young girl picked weeds to give as a gift to baby Jesus and when she placed them at the bottom of the nativity scene, they bloomed into the bright red flowers we admire today.
Today, poinsettias make a stunning feature all on their own. If you feel like getting creative, weave them into a garland and wrap around staircases, or add them to your Christmas tree for a classic look. They also make a great centerpiece on the dining room table.
In Australia, amaryllis are the brightly-coloured flowers that naturally bloom just in time for Christmas, which is how they’ve earned the nickname Christmas lilies. Their vibrant hue and trumpet shape make them a perfect addition to larger bouquets as well as a centrepiece at the Christmas dinner table.
A rose and lily bouquet perfectly balances the freshness of lilies with the warm red tone of roses.
Christmas foliage offers heaps of opportunities to get crafty over the festive season. Lush greenery creates a natural, classic look to our homes and, when combined with berries, lilies and even fairy lights, you could make a statement the whole family loves.
Fresh foliage looks good as wreaths, garlands and other decorations and, with the proper care, will look vibrant throughout the entire Christmas period. Adorn your space with delicate green touches, or go all out with one big impressive decoration.
There will always be a space in our Christmassy hearts for holly, the iconic festive flower with bright red berries and dark green leaves. Did you know that holly first gained its connection to Christmas because the sharp leaves were said in Christianity to represent the crown of thorns worn by Jesus, and the red colour represented his blood?
We’ve been “decorating the halls with boughs of holly” for centuries. Today, we love the traditional feel this flower brings to our Christmas wreaths, garlands and staircases.
We hope your festive period is filled with beautiful blooms as well as sparkling Christmas trees - and maybe even some mistletoe! At bloom’d, we craft bouquets with passion and creativity. We’ve truly learned the art of making someone smile and at Christmas, that couldn’t be more true.
